[Invited Talk] Variety of Sensory Information Integration from Environments and Individual Differences in Visual Illusion -- Examples as Aftereffect of Viewing Concave Curved Displays in a Large and Wide-Angle Environment --
Sakuichi Ohtsuka (Kagoshima Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Visual illusions typically occur when inconsistencies in the integration of multiple visual information arise. Conventionally, with some exceptions of specific situations, optical illusions have been considered occurring independently from individual skills and/or environments. However, the results of our psychophysical experiments (e.g., conflicts of 3D cues, stereoscopic footsteps illusion, curved-surface aftereffect, etc.) suggest that the integration procedures of sensory information from the external environments could largely depend on individual abilities and environments. One can imagine it closely related to the rapid development of information displays and mobile console environments in recent years. Therefore, it is considered necessary to continue conducting careful studies on such phenomena concerning human developments.
