The 2000 Asia-Pacific Symposium on Broadcasting and Communications (APSBC'2000) will be held on December 21-23, 2000 at the King Mongkut's Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang (KMITL) in Bangkok, Thailand. This symposium is sponsored by the Institute of Image Information and Television Engineers in Japan (ITE) and KMITL in cooperation with IEEE BT and AP Japan Chapters, IEEE MTT/AP/ED Thailand Chapter, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokai University, NIME, POST-PARTNERS Promotion Council and JICA.

OBJECTIVE
This Symposium provides an international forum for presenting and discussing progress and recent advances in broadcasting, communication and information technologies.

SCOPE
Technical areas covered by this symposium include broadcasting technologies, opto-electronics, propagation, microwave engineering, communication technology, information technology, image processing engineering, etc.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Papers are solicited in line with the objectives of this symposium which describe new contributions in the areas suggested in the scope. Prospective authors are requested to submit a 500 words summary paper. The title, author's name(s), affiliation, complete mailing address, telephone/fax numbers, and e-mail address of authors should be on the front page. E-mail submission is highly recommended with MS-Word document file attachment.

WORKING LANGUAGE
The working language is English for both manuscripts of the proceedings and presentation.

SYMPOSIUM SITE AT "NIME" IN JAPAN ON DECEMBER 21
Symposium sites will be placed at KMITL (Bangkok) in Thailand and "NIME" (Chiba-City) in Japan on December 21. From Japan it will be possible temporally to participant and to present a paper via the satellite in cooperation with the POST-PARTNERS Promotion Council and NIME. REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee is about US$150 including proceedings, lunches, and banquet.

Summary Submission Deadline: July 20, 2000
Notification of Acceptance: Aug. 30, 2000
Camera-Ready Manuscript Deadline: Oct. 30, 2000

WELCOME TO THAILAND
"The land of smile"
The kingdom of Thailand, covering an area of 514,000 square kilometers, lies in the heart of Southeast Asia. It shares borders with Myanmar to the west and north, Laos to the northeast, Cambodia to the east and Malaysia to the south. The population in Thailand is approximately 65 million.

BANGKOK
Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand which sits beside the banks of the Chao Phraya, the mighty "River of Kings". Bangkok is the Orient's most cosmopolitan city and has attractions to stimulate even the most jaded travelers. Major tourism attractions include glittering Buddhist temples, palaces, floating markets, timeless "Venice of the East" canal scenes, classical dance extravaganzas, an almost legendary nightlife, and numerous air conditioned shopping centers selling Thai Silk, cottons, gemstones, bronzes and pewter ware, and many of the world's most admired handicrafts.

CLIMATE
December is a good month in a year. The lowest temperature is around 22C and the highest is around 30C with low humidity. It is a good weather to play, study and to go to anywhere.
