Relationship between appearance and motion aftereffect to illusory rotation by global motion
Eiichi Mitsukura, Yasuhiro Seya (AichiShukutoku Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Harrison et al.(2016) reported a global rotational illusion induced by vertically or horizontally drifting Gabor stimuli that formed outline of square. In Experiment 1 of the present study, using Gabor stimuli inducing illusory rotation as adaptation stimulus, we measured duration of motion aftereffect. In Experiment 2 we examined observer’s perception of motion direction to the adaptation stimuli used in Experiment 1. Results indicate that the duration of motion aftereffect does not depends on the temporal frequency of adaptation stimulus (Experiment 1). On the other hand, the proportion of participants reporting rotational motion to the stimuli decreased with increasing the temporal frequency (Experiment 2).
