In this paper, we present an adaptive spatial-temporal error concealment method for the wavelet based video coding in wireless networks. A three-dimensional discrete wavelet transform (3-D DWT) is performed 2-D spatial DWT coding and temporal DWT coding on a group of pictures (GOP). The transmission of compressed video suffers from errors such as packet losses that not only corrupt frame but also propagate successive frames. The proposed adaptive spatial-temporal error concealment method consists of spatial EC and temporal EC to overcome error propagation problems. The proposed method is concealing erroneous coefficients of the spatiotemporal low-frequency subband by their duplication information, and uses the proposed adaptive spatial-temporal concealment method to recover errors for entire video sequence. The performance of proposed method was evaluated with wireless packet transmission networks. Experimental results show the proposed method can serve robust and stable performance in error-prone environments.
