An Input Method for VR Walk-Through by Using a Web Camera

(in English) This paper describes an input operation method for VR walk-through by using a Web camera. An operator, who has markers on his/her knees, makes stepping motion at the same spot in front of a Web camera. The stepping motion is input to a PC through the web camera and the markers are tracked in real time so that the stepping speed is calculated. The operator can walk through in a virtual town generated by computer graphics according to the stepping speed. Finally, smooth and real-time walk-through operation has been achieved by using multi threads for recognition of the stepping motion and rendering of the virtual town.
