コンピュータによる顔特徴の解析や似顔絵作成のためには、実写顔画像から各顔部品の形状を表す特徴点を精度良く抽出する必要がある。顔特徴点の自動抽出に関してはこれまでに数多くの研究が報告されているが、顔特徴の解析や似顔絵の作成に耐える精度で安定して検出できるまでには至っていない。本論文では、特徴点位置の統計的性質を利用して、正面向き無表情顔画像から顔特徴点を頑健に自動抽出し、似顔絵を作成する方法について述べる。予め多数の顔画像に基づいて調べた特徴点位置の統計的性質は、特徴点位置の誤検出の判定とそれらの修正との双方に用いられる。様々な年代の男女を含む247枚の顔画像に提案手法を適用し、眉、口、顔輪郭の特徴点について抽出成功率を大幅に向上できることを確認した。 |

Accurate detection of facial feature points is crucial to analyze facial features and to synthesize caricatures by computer. There have been many works on the automatic detection of facial feature points. However the accurate detection methods which can be used in above-mentioned applications have not been developed yet. This paper proposes the method to improve accuracy in the detection of facial feature points using the statistical characteristics of their locations. Statistical characteristics are examined by using many face images. They are used both to check the misdetection of feature points and to locate them at the appropriate locations. Experimental results using 247 face images of males and females from various ages show that the proposed method improves the accuracy in detection of feature points for eyebrows, mouth and facial contour. |
