Disparity Pattern Dependency of Apparent Shape Distortion Induced by Binocular Disparity

We examined whether the apparent shape distortion induced by binocular disparity, the weights to disparity and perspective cues depend on disparity pattern. The stimulus was a grid pattern subtended 20 deg with disparity and/or perspective’s depth modulation which induced slanted or curved surface. The depth amplitude was 0 cm to ±5.8 cm. Apparent depth and shape was quantified by matching method. Some subjects perceived reversed depth. Depth reversals occured only for a slanted flat surface. The subjects who showed reversal tended to perceive larger shape distortion for a slanted flat surface. |
