Effect of binocular disparity and retinal position on depth perception in diplopic images

(in English) Not only binocular disparity but also retinal eccentricity contributes to depth perception in diplopic images in human stereopsis (Fukuda et al., 2009). However, no quantitative investigation on the contribution of these two factors has been reported yet. We independently manipulated those factors by changing the eccentricity of one of diplopic images with keeping the other image at the fovea, and measured depth perception for individual diplopic image. The results revealed that the summation of the effects of binocular disparity and retinal eccentricity determined the depth perception in diplopic images. We also investigated whether binocular disparity mechanism was responsible for the effect of retinal eccentricity.
