Temporal recalibration of vocal sensory by the auditory information feedback
Kosuke Yamamoto, Hideaki Kawabata (Keio Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) In the studies on the multimodal integration between visual and auditory, or between motor sensory and audio / visual modalities, ‘Lag Adaptation’ method has strongly provided the evidence that a sensory modal information can be temporally recalibrated to the other sensory information. On the other hand, ‘Delayed Auditory Feedback’ (DAF), in which the auditory information of our voice is sent with temporally delayed, makes us difficult to vocalize, or makes one with stuttering easy to do so. Both phenomena may be important to understand the mechanism of the multimodal integration, especially in term of temporally binding or comparing between modalities in the brain. In the present study, using ‘Delayed Auditory Feedback’ and ‘Lag Adaptation’ we examined whether the vocal sensory could be temporally recalibrated to the delayed direction of the auditory feedback information. The result suggested that temporal recalibration could be elicited in vocalization in Lag Adaptation in which delayed auditory feedback stimuli were exposured.
