Two-Dimensional Model of Accommodation Mechanism in Human Vision and Its Effectiveness Verification
Toshikazu Matsui (Gunma Univ.)
Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This research extends the one-dimensional model for the accommodation mechanism in human vision to a two-dimensional model by introducing orientational spatial frequency channels and verifies its effectiveness. Actually, the new model’s performance is clarified using two-dimensional sine waves and their digital halftone images. Consequently, the following results were obtained: (1) the new model had the ability to analyze the digital halftone images and detect their dots and signal components modulated by the dots separately; (2) the new model changed its accommodative response depending on the direction that is paid attention to as well as the dot and signal components. These results suggest that the new model can reproduce perceptual response characteristics and accommodative two-dimensional ones for digital halftone images, and that it can be an effective and plausible model for the accommodation mechanism.
