Improvement of Luminous Efficacy Using New Structure in AC-PDPs

(in English) The dielectric layer of low electric permittivity is one of the important methods to achieve the improvement of luminous efficacy in PDPs. However, there is a restriction of glass material development for dielectric layer. So, we focus our research on the transparent electrodes structure which has the same effect as a dielectric layer of low electric permittivity in PDP cells. A new discharge cell structure that has many patterned, reed-shaped ITOs was developed. Use of this structure decreases the effective permittivity in discharge cell by 10%, therefore, increases luminous efficacy by 9% and decreases displacement power by 10%.
