Finger nail detection in hand images using difference of nail-color density between inside and outside fingernail and skin areas

In this paper, we propose the nail area detection system which can detect nail area positions from hand images including palm area. The system uses two-step searches method. Firstly, it extracts the areas which have nail-color pixels by using separation plane in color space in a hand image. Secondly, it searches nail areas by using the density of nail-color pixels around the center of gravity of the areas. As a result of the evaluation experiment, this system performed nail area detections precisely regardless of the both sides of the hand when the influences of a shadow were few in hand images. |
