Scalable Video Coding Using 3D Wavelet Transforms

Recently, there have been a lot of researches on video coding using wavelet transforms, because of its scalability. Such video coding is called as 3D-wavelet coding, since wavelet transforms are used in both of intra- and inter-coding. In this paper, we focus on a scheme where spatial transform is followed by temporal filtering. Since temporal filtering and motion compensation are applied in subbands, aliasing should be reduced in this scheme. Thus, we use the allpass-based orthonormal filter bank, which have a better frequency response than the conventional FIR wavelet filter banks. To obtain a better coding performance, we propose a new procedure for motion compensated prediction in subbands by referring current resolution sub-image. |
