This paper presents an accurate player tracking method in far-view soccer videos. The proposed method defines dissimilarities between different player regions by using hue in HSV color space and the HOG descriptor. By using a new potential energy calculated based on the dissimilarities, we obtain the possibility of a target player region. In addition to the potential energy, we calculate an elastic energy based on an elastic model, which is obtained by connecting players with springs, and movement direction-based energy. The proposed method defines a new energy function represented by a linear combination of the three energies as an evaluation function for player tracking. Experimental results conducted using far-view soccer videos show the effectiveness of the proposed method. |
