[Invited Talk] Organic-Metallic Hybrid Polymers and Display Devices

(in English) Organic-metallic hybrid polymers were synthesized by complexation of various metal ions with organic ligands bearing two coordination sites such as bis(terpyridine)s and bis(phenanthroline)s. The Fe(II)- and Ru(II)-based hybrid polymers had a specific color (blue and red, respectively) based on the metal-to-ligand charge transfer (MLCT) absorption and was revealed to show an electrochromic property, which is color change caused by electrochemical redox. The solid-state electrochromic display devices were fabricated using the polymer films. The Cu(II)-based hybrid polymer also showed electochromic behavior between green color and colorless. The Eu(III)-based hybrid polymer had high luminescent properties and was found to show unique vapoluminescence by sensing acidic and basic vapor.
