Increase in accommodation range induced by super multi-view displays

(in English) Conventional three-dimensional (3D) displays have a conflict between accommodation and vergence stimuli. This accommodation-vergence conflict is one of the possible causes underlying visual fatigue and discomfort while viewing 3D displays. The super multi-view (SMV) display technique has been proposed to reduce the conflict. In this study we examined whether SMV displays can reduce the conflict by measuring accommodation and vergence responses simultaneously. The results show that the super multi-view display enhanced the range in which accommodation changed compared with the conventional two-view stereo display. As a result, the accommodation-vergence conflict can be solved by SMV displays.
