Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) NHK is conducting research on the next-generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting using UHF band to enable large-volume content services such as Super Hi-Vision. As a technology of SFN for the next-generation of digital broadcasting, we have studied an STC-SDM scheme that combines STC with SDM transmission using dual-polarized ultra-multilevel OFDM signals. We developed an experimental transmission system and evaluated the transmission characteristics in laboratory and field experiments. We confirmed the advantage of the STC-SDM scheme compared with the conventional SFN scheme and we tested the terrestrial transmission of Super Hi-Vision in an SFN environment.
