Characteristics of Luminance Uniformity Perception for Performance Evaluation of OLED

(in English) One of the most important characteristics of organic electroluminescent (OLED) lighting is that it is a 2-dimensional surface-emitting device. Non-uniformity of the luminance distribution on an OLED panel is, however, easily detected. Therefore, it is important to find characteristics of the luminance uniformity perception for the performance evaluation of OLED panel. In this study, we investigated characteristics of the luminance uniformity perception on different luminance patterns. In an experiment, we measured subjective magnitude of luminance uniformity using visual stimuli with luminance gradient patterns similar to OLED panels. The results showed that the perceptual uniformity linearly decreased as the luminance gradient increased. In addition, luminance gradients that gave the same perceptual uniformity on different luminance patterns were also measured. The results showed that such luminance gradients were largely different depending on the luminance patterns.
