Simulation of high density recording on 3-layer ECC dot bit patterned media

(in English) Magnetization reversal properties of ECC dots was analyzed using a simulation. Magnetic parameters of the formerly proposed 3-layer ECC dot were modified to compensate the additional anisotropy from the shape and the stacking of the layers. The modification in the magnetic parameters resulted in a minimum switching field and applied field angle dependence of the field. It was also indicated that the modification reduced the inter-dot magnetostatic interaction. Recording simulation using a multi-stepped shielded planar head field on the bit-patterned media with modified 3-layer ECC dots suggested possibility of a high areal density recording above 4 T dot/in2 with no energy assist. It was concluded that magnetic parameter compensation for additional shape and stacking anisotropy is indispensable for ECC dots.
