NHK is conducting research on the next-generation of digital terrestrial broadcasting using UHF band to enable large-volume content services such as 8K Super Hi-Vision. As a technology to expand transmission capacity, we have studied dual-polarized MIMO which uses two orthogonal polarizations simultaneously and ultra multi-level OFDM in which the carrier modulation is expanded up to 4096 QAM. We evaluated the transmission characteristics of Non-uniform mapping which optimizes the distance between the symbols in QAM constellation. We confirmed the advantages of Non-uniform mapping compared with the conventional uniform mapping in dual-polarized MIMO, ultra multi-level OFDM transmission. |
