The optimum frequency band partition in variable coding rate based on similarity of signal distribution

(in English) In order to improve the coding performance of subband image coding, the optimum frequency band partition has been proposed. This method achieves higher coding efficiency by dividing the 2-dimensional frequency domain into some subbands according to the similarity of signal distribution. This paper presents new parameter which is called the cumulative error, to evaluate the similarity of signal distribution, and the optimum frequency band partition and the optimum combination of quantizers within subbands corresponding to the coding rate are obtained using the cumulative error.
