A Study on Image Processing for Action Assistance of Visually Impaired Humans with a Smartphone

(in English) In this article, a determination method of distance and directions of textured pavement blocks (TPB) on a smartphone is proposes. Based on previously proposed TPB position determination method, longest parallel line pairs are determined from extracted edge pixels. Then, the number of pixels between the parallel lines is calculated with distance formula. Finally, the distance from camera position to the parallel lines is calculated comparing the number and a pixels-distance reference table created in advance. Experiments for 1, 3, 5m distance samples with an Android smartphone show that distance is determined with about 3-30% error rates.
