Evaluating the Nonlinear Characteristics of On-board TWTA for 8K UHDTV Satellite Broadcasting

(in English) Technical requirements (specifications) for UHDTV broadcasting including 8KTV via satellite were reported by the Information and Communications Council of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications in March, 2014. Increase of transmission capacity per a bandwidth is achieved by the introduction of 16APSK. In the report, to reduce the deterioration of 16APSK transmission due to the nonlinear characteristics of on-board TWTA, a back-off operation is described. In this paper, by evaluating the relationship between the output back-off and the nonlinear characteristics of the reference TWTA used at the laboratory experiment in the report, the required C/N, the guidelines for determining of the operating point (output back-off) of on-board TWTA are considered.
