Study on In-Cell-Type Polarizer for High-Performance LCD

(in English) Recently, a technique, so-called an "in-cell" technique, has been attracting people’s attention for improving LCD performance, in which optical components such as retardation films and/or polarizers are fabricated inside glass substrates. For the technique, use of UV-curable LC materials combined with a photo-alignment method are expected to further improvement of LCD performance. In this study, we focus on fabricating “in-cell” polarizers, in which we use UV-curable LC material dissolved with dichroic dye. We report optical properties of the polarizers and also show device performance of a VA cell having in-cell polarizers.
