Display Application of Waveguide Propagation Light Controlled by LC Medium

(in English) Currently, liquid crystal displays (LCDs) are widely used in all the fields of human life, which requests extra-low power consumption in LCDs. In this study, we have proposed a new type of a display mode, in which propagating light through pole spacers (waveguide structure) is controlled by the surrounding LC medium. We show fabrication processes of a new display devices and characterize the device performance. We also study a backlight unit for the proposed display device, and the experimental results combined with the backlight unit is shown.
