Numerical simulations on design and detection of spatial quadrature amplitude modulated signals for high-density holographic data storage

(in English) We perform numerical simulations on spatial quadrature amplitude modulation (SQAM) based holographic data storage which realize significant increase of the modulation rate in the pagedata. Although SQAM signals in which both amplitude and phase are used for signal modulation may contribute to improve data density of holographic data storage, the quantitative recording properties have not been clarified to our knowledge. Therefore, we investigate the symbol error characteristics and the related properties of SQAM-based holographic data storage by the simulator which has been developed in our group and is based on fast-Fourier transform beam-propagation method (FFT-BPM). Concretely, 16, 32, 64-level SQAM signals are used in the simulations. The results show the 32-level SQAM signal can achieve more than 3 times higher data density in the case without multiplexing. Furthermore, since we also simulate the tolerance properties of the detection method for SQAM signals named “2ch holographic diversity interferometer (2ch-HDI)” which is one of the implementation approach of phase shifting interferometry (PSI).
