A Note on Classification of Individual Favorite Musical Pieces Utilizing EEG Signals during Listening to Music

This paper presents a new method using individual EEG signals for improving his/her favorite music classification. Our previously reported method calculates relationship between user's EEG signals during listening to musical pieces and their corresponding audio signals via Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA). By monitoring this relationship, our previously reported method obtains new EEG-based audio features and realizes an accurate classification of user's favorite musical pieces based on the obtained features. However, our previously reported method does not consider class information indicating that a user likes/dislikes a musical piece when obtaining the CCA-based relationship. Therefore, the proposed method derives new CCA which can consider not only correlation but also class information to our previously reported method. In this way, the performance improvement of the classification can be expected. Experimental results obtained by applying the proposed method to actual EEG and audio signals, show its effectiveness. |
