[Invited Talk] International Standardization of FTV and Related 3D Topics in SIGGRAPH 2015

(in English) FTV (Free-viewpoint TV) enables users to view a 3D scene by freely changing the viewpoint. FTV is the ultimate 3DTV with an infinite number of views and ranked as the top of visual media in the world. MPEG has been developing FTV standards since 2001. The first phase of FTV produced MVC (Multiview Video Coding) standard, which enables the efficient coding of multiple camera views. The second phase of FTV produced coding standards of MVD (Multiview plus Depth) data for viewing adaptation and display adaptation of multiview displays. The current third phase of FTV targets revolutionized 3D viewing by super multiview and free navigation. 3D systems presented at SIGGRAPH 2015 make us feel a coming new 3D era represented by FTV.
