We are developing an FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) or microwave link that can transmit SHV (Super Hi-Vision) signals for program contribution towards the rollout of SHV broadcasting. The goal is to achieve 200-Mbps-class data rate within the same channel bandwidth as that for the currently used Hi-Vision FPU. To increase the data rate, an ultra-multilevel OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and a dual-polarized MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) technologies are introduced. LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) codes are employed to suppress the significant increase in the required carrier-to-noise ratio due to the ultra-multilevel modulation. This paper describes the fabrication of an SHV-FPU with above technologies implemented and the long-haul (more than 50 km) transmission experiments. As a result of the experiments, SHV signals were successfully transmitted as expected and little degradation of cross polarization discrimination was observed even through the long propagation. |
