Inhibition effects on resting fNIRS signals of prefrontal cortex by dynamic random-dot patterns

(in English) In the measurement of the functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), the difference between resting state and task-performing state is often evaluated as an index of brain activities. However, since the definition of resting-state is ambiguous, the experimental conditions of resting state are not controlled, and this makes individual differences of experimental data enlarged. In this study, we investigate the condition to be recovered to resting state earlier during a recovery process after brain activation. We compared the brain activity of prefrontal cortex (PFC) while gazing at a low-passed dynamic random-dot pattern (DRD) or a fixation crosshair after performing a 3-back task. The results suggest that the averaged activities of PFC in the DRD condition were significantly lower than the FT condition.
