8K HDR cameras using Hybrid-Log-Gamma

(in English) High dynamic range (HDR) broadcast is capable from the beginning of the 8K test broadcast in August 2016, and NHK is aiming to start the HDR broadcast using Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) system. However, most existing 8K cameras were developed prior to the establishment of the HLG standard and they met only to the conventional standard dynamic range (SDR) system. In this paper, we describe the method of applying the HLG system to existing 8K cameras by adding HLG opto-electronic transfer function (OETF) tables to the existing gamma correction circuit. We also show the imaging properties and operation procedures of 8K HDR cameras.
