A Study of Erasure Code to Improve Burst Loss Tolerance -- Performance Comparison with Interleaving Method --

(in English) With the spread of communication networks using IP (Internet Protocol), technical development and standardization of transmitting uncompressed or compressed video signals in IP packets are performed. In a video over IP transmission, FEC (Forward Error Correction) method to restore the lost packets is effective. We have proposed a new FEC method with erasure code to improve the burst loss tolerance compared to the conventional method, which restore the lost packet using exclusive OR operations. In this paper, we report about performance comparison results between the proposed FEC method and an interleaving FEC method. As a result, we will reveal that burst loss tolerance of the proposed FEC method can be improved to about two times compare to that of the interleaving FEC method. And we will also reveal that error correction processing time of the proposed FEC method can be reduced to about 67% compared to that of the interleaving FEC method.
