Hollow face illusion on aerial display with AIRR -- Comparison of illusion effects on a real object and an aerial image of Paper Dragon --

(in English) We have realized an aerial 3D display with AIRR (aerial imaging by retro-reflection) that evokes hollow face illusion, in which a concave mask of a face is perceived as a normal convex face. In this paper, we compare the hollow face illusion effect in the case of an aerial 3D image and a real object by subjective evaluation. Moreover, we investigate factors that evoke hollow face illusion. As a result, the illusion effect on the aerial image was stronger than the real object under binocular viewing conditions. However, there was no relationship between the illusion effect and adjective pairs on the subjective evaluation experiment.
