Development of colormap database system for scientific visualization

In scientific visualization, a colormap design that determines how to assign physical values to colors is one of the essential visualization parameters. In recent years, various colormaps have been proposed, such as those closer to human senses and those more easily recognizable to users, as well as traditional rainbow colormap. However, since researchers who generate scientific datasets are not visualization experts, it is difficult to know what kind of colormap is appropriate for the target data. Therefore, we propose a colormap database system based on a classification of visualization results published in visualization papers by characteristics of the target dataset. It is possible to support for selecting a suitable colormap for the property of the target dataset. |
