Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) This research examines the effect of stationary objects outside the screen on visually-induced motion sickness. Actually, the existence or non-existence of stationary objects outside the screen is controlled by removing or wearing a goggle for restricting subjects’ visual field, and the severity of visually-induced motion sickness is evaluated by two kinds of subjective sickness scales, Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ) and a self-designed subjective scale. Consequently, the following results are obtained: (1) the SSQ scale detects minor changes of the severity as well as major changes, whereas the self-designed subjective scale is difficult to detect minor changes; (2) the existence of stationary objects outside the screen decreases the SSQ scale regardless of the severity. These results suggest that the presentation of stationary objects outside the screen can be an effective way to reduce such a sickness.
