Application of Step Index Core to 5-Core MCF with Standard Cladding Diameter

(in English) To apply MCFs to practical optical transmission systems, a 5 core MCF having a clad diameter of 125 μm, which has a good connection affinity with a conventional SMF, has been reported. When the cladding diameter is fixed to the standard diameter of 125 μm, core to core cross-talk and excess loss suppression caused by light leakage to the outside of the cladding become a tradeoff. In order to alleviate this tradeoff, the reported 5-core MCF has a profile having a deep trench layer in the core peripheral.
In this report, we investigated the characteristics of MCFs with G.652 and G.657 type step index cores to realize MCFs having good productivity suitable for the practical application. As a result, the possibility of applying step index cores 5-core MCFs is confirmed by relaxing the design conditions according to the application.
