Transmission Performance Evaluation of an Advanced ISDB-T -- Simulation Results of Coded SFN --

(in English) We have been developing an advanced Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting-Terrestrial (advanced ISDB-T) to realize 4K/8K service by terrestrial broadcasting. The advanced ISDB-T inherits the features of ISDB-T and adopts the new technologies such as LDPC (Low-Density Parity-Check) code and higher-order modulation. The advanced ISDB-T enables 4K/8K service for fixed reception and 2K service for mobile reception in a single channel. The advanced ISDB-T adopts OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) and is able to constructs SFN (Single Frequency Network). SFN has a property that the total received quality deteriorates when the reception power ratio from the two transmitting stations is low. In such a case, the required carrier to noise ratio (C/N) increases in that area. To treat this property, in the advanced ISDB-T, transmitting scheme using space-time coding (STC) technology is considered as an optional function (hereafter, this function is referred to as “coded SFN”). In this paper, we evaluated the performance of the coded SFN by computer simulation. The result showed the validity of the coded SFN.
