Studying on New Coatable Passive and Active Polarizers using Control of P3HT Molecular Alignment

(in English) In recent years, the performance of a liquid crystal display (LCD) has been realized to be drastically improved with using a coatable in-cell type polarizer and thus has attracted people’s attention. In this study, we use P3HT as a main material to make a coatable polarizing film since unidirectionally-aligned P3HT molecules shows the absorption anisotropy in a visible light region, as well as a photoconduction property and relatively high thermal stability. We apply alignment-controlled P3HT to make two types of polarizers; one is conventional coatable polarizer (passive polarizer), and the other is a coatable polarizer with solar cell properties (active polarizer). We investigate the alignment control of P3HT molecules using two methods of rubbing and photo-alignment methods. Although the performance of fabricated passive and active polarizing films is not satisfactory, the alignment controlled P3HT films exhibit basic properties of passive and active polarizers.
