An analysis of microsaccade characteristics induced by bottom-up attention shifts

(in English) The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between bottom-up attention shifts and characteristics of microsaccades. We conducted an experiment to induce bottom-up attention shifts in response to light stimuli presented in the peripheral field at random times and analyzed the characteristics of the microsaccades measured in this experiment. The results showed that the frequency of microsaccades was suppressed and rebounded immediately after the presentation of light stimuli, indicating that the occurrence of microsaccades is modified by a bottom-up attentional shift. On the other hand, no clear causal relationship was found between the direction of microsaccades and the direction of attention shifts. These results suggest that the bottom-up attentional shift affects the frequency of microsaccades and is independent of the direction of microsaccades.
