Extraction of Image Factors for the Face Lightness Perception by Reverse Correlation Method with PS Statistics Noise

(in English) The psychophysical reverse correlation method is commonly used to find candidate image features contributing to face impressions. In this study, we proposed a novel reverse correlation method using the noise based on the Portilla-Simoncelli (PS) statistics, which reflects the lower-order image representations in the visual system. We attempted to extract image factors related to the facial skin lightness with this method. The results showed that the facial lightness was negatively correlated with the high-frequency contrast of the skin, and positively correlated with the low-frequency contrast.
