We focused on what people consider important in tourism. 50 Japanese adults were asked to rate the importance of each of the 160 items (excluding duplicates) of existing scales related to tourism motive. The results were analyzed and a 33-item tourism motivation scale was developed. Using this scale, an online questionnaire was administered to 1157 people living in 8 countries and regions, and 6 factors were extracted. As a result of cluster analysis based on these factors, it was found that the participants were classified into eight motivation types and that the distribution of the types differed by country and region.
