Dependence of perpendicular magnetic anisotropy and magnetic Kerr effect in (Bi,La)(Fe1-xCox)O3 multiferroic thin films on Co substitution concentration against Fe

(in English) High saturation magnetization and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy are required for multiferroic (ferromagnetic / ferroelectric) thin film to apply magnetic writing element of magnetic nano-wire memory, which is a next-generation magnetic recording device. In this study, in the BiFeO3-based multiferroic thin film, the element substitution effect not only of Bi (A site) but also of Fe (B site) on magnetic properties was investigated. The Co substitution amount was varied from 0 at% to 28 at%. As a result, with increasing the amount of Co substitution, the saturation magnetization and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy increased. In addition, the magnetic Kerr effect of these films was also investigated, for their possibility to be applied to next-generation magneto-optical light modulator with ultra-low power consumption and high resolution. As a result, with increasing the amount of Co substitution, the magnetic Kerr rotation angle also increased. However, there was a difference in the tendency of changes between saturation magnetization and magnetic Kerr rotation angle with respect to the amount of Co substitution. This indicates that the expression mechanisms of both may be different.
