Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) With the progress of the IoT and the Trillion Sensor Universe, the amount of information collected by CMOS image sensors is expected to increase, and an image processing method that does not rely on humans is required. Image recognition based on deep learning is expected to be an effective means to process this big data. However, the amount of information in images captured by conventional image sensors is too redundant for the image recognition system. In this paper, we suppose an image sensor which can output conventional images and feature image. For the image sensor, a SAR A/D converter that
converts the pixel output signal into 10 bit digital signal during the normal image capturing and into 5 bit digital signal with lower power consumption during the feature extraction image capturing is proposed, because the image recognition system can classify an image with low bit resolution. The proposed circuit is verified with SPICE simulation and a test chip is fabricated.
