Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) A data-embedding technique to printed images has been proposed. In this technique, the embedded data is retrieved from the image captured using the camera of a mobile device. Although this method is expected to be an alternative to QR Code, there are some problems, such as the data amount of embedding information and the robustness of detection. However, the evaluation of the method requires printing and capturing the embedded image in reality, which is very burdensome. In this paper, we propose a reduction method of the workload in evaluating the performance of data embedding algorithms by simulating the degradation caused by printing and capturing. This paper adopts a deep learning-based approach to reproduce the degradation using Pix2Pix, an image transformation method based on conditional Generative Adversarial Network (cGAN). In addition, we obtain the positions of the image borders and the amount of distortion in the image from the actual captured image. These data are utilized to cope with various captured conditions. Experimental results show that the proposed method can faithfully represent the detection accuracy of the embedded data and confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.
