This paper proposes a new magic-T structure to improve the bandwidth of the planar magic-T consisting of microstrip lines and coplanar stripline. The proposed planar magic-T employs a fan-shaped open end instead of the shorted quarter-wavelength coplanar stripline to provide a high impedance. The fan-shaped open-end coplanar stripline provides wideband performance because it is a physical open end and the frequency dependence is reduced. In this paper, a prototype of the wideband planar magic-T is designed and evaluated to confirm the proposed concept. |
