Indoor wide area projection system using multiple ProCam units

(in English) Recently, space directions using projectors has been widely used. In particular, the projection of images over a wide area using multiple projectors has attracted much attention in the fields of entertainment, education, training because it provides a high sense of immersion and presence. In order to realize such wide-area projection, it is necessary to measure the projection space and correct the distortion of the projected image caused by the projection surface. However, the measurement of the three-dimensional shape of a large projection space, including the calibration of the equipment used for projection and measurement, is still a great burden, and it is a limitation for the use of wide area projection in more fields. In this study, we propose a method to automatically construct a wide-area projection environment in a room of unknown shape by using a projector and a camera as a calibrated integrated unit.
