We investigated the hierarchy between various kinds of material perceptions and affective impressions in human visual processing based on psychophysical response times. Thurston’s paired comparison method was employed in the experiment. The observers responded as quickly as possible regarding material perception such as glossiness, and sensory impressions such as luxury and preference on different object images. The results suggest no clear hierarchical structure in which material perception precedes the affective impressions. |
