Temporal characteristics of body position perception in older adults -- From an interoceptive accuracy perspective --

Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) Body representation is shaped by integrating information from various sensory modalities, such as visual and proprioceptive systems. This study investigated the age-related changes in visuo-proprioceptive integration in body representation using the mirror illusion paradigm. We focused primarily on its temporal characteristics and the links between aging and interoception. The results showed that older adults were more susceptible to the illusion (larger mislocalization of their hand position) than young adults, and its temporal characteristics differed from each other. We discuss these findings in terms of interoceptive sensibility and accuracy.
