Effect of tactile stimulus on body ownership of an invisible body via visual motor synchronicity

The present study examined the effect on body ownership of presenting the tactile stimulus at the same time as the visual motor synchronous stimulus an invisible body of only the hands and feet in Virtual Reality (VR). In experiment, there were 5 conditions; 4 conditions in which was a combination of 2 types of avatar's body (visible or invisible) and 2 types of tactile stimulus (presence or absence), and 1 condition in which avatar and tactile stimulus were not presented. As a result, 14 participants were sorted two groups; one groups (5/14) who had a higher body ownership of a visible body than an invisible body, while another (9/14) had a higher body ownership of an invisible body than a visible body. furthermore, it was shown that body ownership of an invisible body that was presented tactile stimulus was higher than it was not presented tactile stimulus. these results suggested that the effect of tactile stimulus on body ownership may differ depending on the avatar’s body is visible or invisible. |
