Abstract (in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
(in English) It has been reported that the depth perception of a flat image is enhanced when the image is reflected by a concave mirror rather than viewing directly on a flat display. In recent years, electronic rear-view mirrors that capture rearward image with a camera and project it on a display have been developed and put to practical use in vehicles. In order to examine whether an increase in depth perception with a concave mirror is observed in the electronic rear-view mirror, we conducted a series of experiment in a real vehicle environment under the following conditions: observation of a rear vehicle through a flat mirror, observation of a vehicle image displayed on an electronic rear-view mirror and observation of a vehicle image on a flat display through a concave mirror. We measured the perceived distance of the rear vehicle and the impression of the rear scene in each condition and compared the visibilities of the different types of room mirrors.
